Casino Bonus Wagering Requirements Explained

The actual math behind bonus wagering. How to calculate whether a bonus has positive expected value, and why most don't.

A 200% deposit bonus sounds like free money. The wagering requirements is why it almost never is.

How wagering requirements work: You deposit $100, receive $200 in bonus funds, for a $300 total balance. The casino requires 35x wagering on the bonus amount ($200 x 35 = $7,000). You must wager $7,000 total before you can withdraw.

The math at a 96% RTP slot: Expected loss = wagering required x house edge $7,000 x 4% = $280 expected loss completing the wagering requirement. Your bonus was worth $200. You expect to lose $280 getting it. Net expected value: -$80.

When does a bonus have positive EV? Only when: (Bonus amount) > (Wagering requirement x house edge) $200 > ($7,000 x 4%) equals $200 > $280, which is FALSE. The bonus only has positive EV if wagering is 25x or less at 96% RTP.

rakeback vs deposit bonuses: Rakeback (15-25% of net losses returned) has no wagering requirement. It's mathematically superior to most deposit bonuses for regular players. Platforms with rakeback include Gamdom, Rainbet, and Rakebit.

The one exception: A high enough bonus percentage with low enough wagering. Example: 100% up to $500 at 20x wagering. $500 x 20 x 4% = $400 expected loss. Bonus was $500. Net EV: +$100. These exist but are rare and typically have restrictive game lists.
